Palakkad School Blast: Explosives Found at RSS-Linked Campus Spark Investigation and Public Outcry
On August 20, an explosive device detonated at Vyasa Vidyapeedom School in Moothanthara, Palakkad, injuring a 10-year-old student and an elderly woman. The incident prompted a swift police investigation, which led to the discovery of more dangerous explosives near the school premises. Authorities identified links between the materials found at a nearby Kallekkad house—where 24 detonators, pig crackers, and other items used for manufacturing explosives were seized and the school blast. The suspects, including Suresh Kumar and Noushad of Kallekkad, were seen near the school a day before the explosion and have since been arrested, with another individual, Fazil, also in custody. While the accused claim the explosives were for legitimate construction purposes, police continue to probe the possibility of criminal intent, especially since the injured include a child. The investigation has sparked local controversy, with political parties demanding transparency, citing the school’s RSS affiliation and raising concerns about public safety and possible conspiracies. The police have registered multiple sections under the Explosive Substances Act and Juvenile Justice Act, and the matter is being handled with urgency as authorities seek to prevent similar incidents in the future.
