A Life of Service Cut Short: Remembering Prasannakumari, Mannarkkad’s Employment Officer
What was meant to be a day of joy and celebration for Prasannakumari, the dedicated Employment Officer at Mannarkkad Employment Exchange, turned into a day of unimaginable tragedy. Just two days before her retirement, Prasannakumari (56) was run over by a private bus at the Mannarkkad Municipal Bus Stand around 11 am on Thursday, ending her 35 years of government service in the most heartbreaking manner.
Eyewitnesses recount that after the bus had dropped off passengers and was moving out of the stand, it struck Prasannakumari from the side, causing her to fall. The rear wheels then ran over her. She was immediately rushed to Mannarkkad Taluk Hospital, but her life could not be saved.
At her home in Mannur near Pathiripala, a pandal had been set up to host a retirement party for colleagues, friends, and relatives—a celebration she had personally arranged before leaving for work that morning. Over 150 guests were invited, and she had even told her family to open the farewell gifts after the party. Instead, the venue became the site of her final journey, as her colleagues and loved ones gathered in mourning.
Prasannakumari joined the Mannarkkad Employment Exchange in 2019 after serving in Shoranur, Chalakkudy, and Palakkad. She started as a Lower Division Clerk and rose to become Employment Officer just two years ago. Known for her meticulous work ethic and warm relationships, she often worked on holidays and attended office even when she could have taken leave. She was described by colleagues as deeply committed and beloved by all.
