How a Palakkad Couple Returned to School with Their Kids
A heartwarming story from Palakkad, Kerala, is inspiring many. Abu Tahir (40) and his wife Taslima (30), from Hidayat Nagar, have gone back to school after years of dropping out. Inspired by their three children Fathima Najiya (Class 8), Muhammad Anas (Class 4), and Muhammad Hadi (Class 2) the couple decided to continue their studies so their education wouldn’t remain incomplete.
Abu Tahir, a madrasa teacher, and his wife Taslima have been attending Sunday equivalency classes at Govt. Moyan MGHSS School in Palakkad for the past two years. They completed their 10th standard earlier and, after passing their Plus One exams, are now preparing for Plus Two. Recently, the couple appeared together for the second-year Malayalam exam at PMG Higher Secondary School.
They credit the Kerala State Literacy Mission for making adult education accessible and supportive. Inspired by their children’s studies, Abu Tahir said, “Seeing our kids study made us want to do the same. We didn’t want our education to remain unfinished.”
Their story shows the power of family, the value of learning at any age, and the impact of Kerala’s literacy efforts. It’s a reminder that parents can lead by example, proving it’s never too late to learn.
