Fresh Moon Food – Revathi’s Unique Idli Café
If you’re near Pazhayannurkkavu in Kerala and smell steaming idlis in the air, you might be close to one of the area’s most loved food spots. Welcome to Fresh Moon Food, a small roadside eatery that has won many hearts, all thanks to the passion and creativity of its founder, Revathi.
From Teacher to Idli Innovator
Revathi’s story is as inspiring as her food. After working for years as a high school teacher, she made the bold choice to leave her stable job and follow her dream of starting a small café. She had a strong academic background, graduating in 2016, earning a B.Ed, passing the K-TET, and even clearing the NET exam on her first try. But the desire to build something of her own and support her family in a new way kept pulling her in a different direction.
The Birth of Fresh Moon Food
Three months ago, Revathi started Fresh Moon Food with a simple aim to serve tasty, homestyle idlis and earn a living. She began small, bringing batter and curry by bus and cooking everything fresh at her roadside stall. In just a few weeks, her special idli varieties like Thattu Idly, Chicken Idly, Podi Idly, and Soya Idly started attracting crowds. Her family’s homemade chutney powder also became a big hit, adding a unique touch to her menu.
What makes Fresh Moon Food special isn’t just its idli varieties, but Revathi’s bold experiments. She added unique combos like banana fritters with beef and several chicken dishes, growing the menu as more customers came in. What began as a small evening stall now runs from noon to midnight. As demand increased, Revathi moved from taking the bus to using an autorickshaw, and later bought her own van. She also hired staff to help manage the growing business. Revathi’s journey is also about family support and strength. She runs the café with help from her father Vijayakumar, her sister Gouri Nanda, and her two young children. Even as her business grows, she stays focused on her studies, balancing her love for food with her passion for learning.
