Kanjirapuzha Dam Tourism Project: Kerala’s Bold New Destination
On September 1, 2025, Kerala’s Minister Roshi Augustin will inaugurate a groundbreaking tourism initiative at the Kanjirapuzha Dam in Palakkad. This ambitious project, with an investment of ₹167 crore, aims to transform Kanjirapuzha into one of the state’s top leisure destinations. The inauguration will also mark the start of construction for the tourism infrastructure, establishing Kanjirapuzha not just as a vital irrigation site but as a full-fledged tourism hub.
Vision and Development
The Kerala government’s irrigation tourism policy forms the backbone of this venture. Large swathes of unused land beside state dams managed by the Water Resources Department will be repurposed for tourism. For the Kanjirapuzha project, about 50 acres have been earmarked to host a variety of attractions and activities. The contract for developing the destination has been awarded to Kozhikode-based FSIT Redefine Destination Private Limited, who will manage the site for 30 years.
