Smuggling Bust in Palakkad: Cash and Gold Hidden in a Custom-Made Jacket

A dramatic smuggling attempt was foiled in Palakkad district when Kerala Police, during a routine vehicle check in the Velanthavalam area, uncovered a highly unusual concealment method-a custom-made jacket packed with illicit cash and gold.

Three men, traveling on two motorbikes from Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu into Kerala, were stopped by police officers conducting standard inspections near the state border. Officers became suspicious when they noticed one man’s clothing appeared oddly bulky and disproportionate. Upon questioning, the man was asked to remove his shirt, revealing a specially tailored black jacket with multiple hidden pockets.

Inside the jacket, police discovered a staggering Rs 70 lakh in cash and 200 grams of gold. The man was identified as Sagar, and his companions as Manikandan and Sandeep. All three were detained for further investigation as authorities sought to uncover the full extent and purpose of the smuggling operation.
